Special Programs
AM & PM Playgroup: On select days, children in the morning program may be dropped off at 8:40 and/or stay until 12:00 to enjoy stories, music and movement activities with a teacher. Space is limited and signups are required in advance.

Explorers:  Explorers is our popular all outdoor, hands-on, nature program.  Seven weeks sessions are held three times a year (fall, winter, and spring) and classes are open to VPP families as well as the community.  Little Explorers is for walking ones, twos and threes and their parents, and Family Explorers is for children 3 – 6 and their parents.  All classes are held at local nature areas where we explore creeks, climb trees, take very child friendly hikes, and engage in hands-on nature activities.  Please visit our website or contact sarah@valleyparent.org with questions!

Additional Co-Op Information
Parents participate in the classroom the number of times per month that their child attends per week.  For instance, preschool children attend two mornings a week and parents volunteer two mornings a month.  One non co-op spot is available in each class for families unable to work in the classroom.  Each family is asked to contribute 20-25 hours a year of committee hours, 5 school upkeep hours, and to attend 4 parent meetings during the year.  Optional social events are also held for families who would like to attend.
Philosophy
Valley Parent’s curriculum is an emergent one, based on a developmental approach to learning. Our program focuses on the whole child and provides opportunities for children to enhance their emotional, social, creative, physical and cognitive growth.  We believe children are natural learners, motivated by their own desire to understand their world through first-hand experiences. Our school is designed to provide an environment and activities that encourage curiosity and foster exploration.

We believe play is the primary method through which children learn. Our schedule allows for long periods of open play as well as more structured small group experiences. Regular activities include games, storytelling, singing, dancing, small and large motor activities, process oriented art, hands-on science experiments, cooking, gardening, building, creating and exploring.

As a cooperative school, we believe the family is the most influential teacher in a child¹s life and we feel privileged to partner alongside you. Parent involvement is crucial to the success of our program and we look forward to working together!
